Places & Spaces I love: The Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy

Confession time: I'm sick of typical hotels with their boring cliche interiors. Lloyd Hotel, upon stumbling upon it on the internet, was an immediate 10/10 in my book. There are quite a few things the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy can brag about: they're the first 1-to-5 star design hotel in the world, the hotel has a rich interesting history, and they've got absolutely beautiful comfy rooms that just can't be beat.

The Lloyd Hotel first opened in the 1920's, built by the Royal Dutch Lloyd on the IJ-Quay from which their ships departed. Since its opening, the Lloyd Hotel went from being an emmigrant hotel to becoming a refugee center, detention center, juvenile detention center, and artist studios. In November 2014, it was turned into the 1-to-5 star designer hotel we see today.

My room at the Lloyd Hotel is situated in the 6th floor of the building, includes a swing in the middle of the room and a bathtub on the left side. You can say I was a smitten kitten. Even the rocking chair on the side, which would usually creep me out, was a welcomed detail that just fit.

It was interesting to find out through the hotel's history exhibition that my room was also used as an artist studio a decade or two ago!

Here I am about to try getting on the swing and praying for dear life I don't break the beams in half. I'm not the lightest person in the world, even Gab was worried we'd bring the entire hotel down. Thanks, Gab!

Success!!! I swung on it a few times until I got tired.

I think my favorite part of the entire room was the bathtub in the room itself. There was something absolutely relaxing about it. On the morning of the day we were to depart, I spent an hour relaxing in a warm bubble bath. Gab took the liberty of taking my photos.

What a shame we could only spend a night, the morning after we had a hard time even getting out of bed! Gab and I were so relaxed underneath the thick white comforters, the charming wooden beams above us, the sleepy morning light... It was like waking up to a dream.

Here's the thing about Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy, I'll forever find myself wanting the same aesthetic and comfort in all future accommodations I'll stay at in the future, but they just won't compare.
