Letters to The Future

Letters To The Future is a documentary that began with a simple question to 20 somethings: 'What would you say to your future self?' It's a film by millennials for millennials. The last showing for this documentary is on the 30th of August (Saturday) at Fully Booked in Bonifacio Global City. I've regrettably missed on the previous showings, and unfortunately don't think I'll make it to the last showing either, but I do hope that they'll somehow make the film available for screening somewhere else (or available for download online? *winkwinknudgenudge*) I was on their Facebook page and saw a series of questions they posted and thought, hey why not have Gab and me answer them?

What did you want to be when you were a kid?A fireman, paleontologist, astronaut, englishman, Fred Flinstone, and Batman.

What will you miss most about being young? Not knowing the real world so your imagination runs so freely.

What's it like to fall in love in 2014? I met Camie in 2010. So Im four times more in love with her now. But other than that I have no idea... Just be true to yourself and your loved one. Care for each other and make one another happy. Love each other and be true.

How do you define success? Satisfying your hunger with satisfactory work. You HAVE to love your work and whatever else you are doing or else whats the point? We only live once. Might as well live most of it doing what you love and being with the people that you love.

Whats the worst thing about our generation? Everyones on their phones... Including me. Gotta work on that.

Where will you be in 30 years? No idea... But isn't that exciting? Ideally I would want to direct movies and write stuff whiles living in my beach house. We can dream.

What would you say to your future self? I hope that you are doing swell. Beware of heart attacks, man.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?I shifted from wanting to be someone who traveled the world, a French woman, and an actress. The last two is shot down the drain, but the first is still something I can do!

What will you miss most about being young? The naivety towards real life problems, feeling careless, and knowing the only real problem I had was not understanding the new Filipino grammar lesson and complicated Algebra equations... But I think the thing I'll miss about being young is knowing there will still be more time. Time is what scares me. The older you get, the less time you have, right?

What's it like to fall in love in 2014? I've been really lucky to have fallen in love in 2011 and still be so much in love to present date, especially to be in love with someone like Gab, who is really very much like an old soul. I think falling in love at this day and age is made complicated by both men and women with the mixed messages, playing games, refusing to communicate -- and social media doesn't help with that either. People no longer say what they mean and mean what they say.

How do you define success? Success is being happy despite your circumstances, it's knowing how to make the best of what you have but still knowing to keep striving for better.

Whats the worst thing about our generation? The digital age and relying too much on the internet. I'll admit that technology has done tremendous things for us, and life would definitely be harder without it, but some things aren't meant to be changed, like the way we communicate and spend time with other people. Everyone is always on their gadgets and always connected. I wish people interacted in real life more than interacting with people through a device. I'm trying to take steps into changing this about me, though.

Where will you be in 30 years? I'll be way past 50 by then,  I'll either still be working or I'll be traveling... Or both. This is why I should only have one kid. Haha

What would you say to your future self? At 24 years old you were happy and had everything going for you, I hope you still have that and more. And if not, remember that you've always been a positive person and if you stay humble and kind, then that will always been enough.

What about you? What would you say to your future self?
